North Island 15 October

We decided to stay at the same campsite today. The weather forecast wasn’t good, and we were feeling a little tired too.
It rained quite heavily all morning, but sitting in the 40-degree hot tub while the rain came down was an absolute treat.
After lunch we decided to go for a walk after all. It was only a short walk, but absolutely beautiful, following paths alongside and through the mangroves, sometimes balancing on wooden planks.
Before the walk, we had a lovely conversation with an elderly lady. She had placed one of her late husband’s shoes in a tree and planted something in it. You can see in the photo how beautifully the plant has grown. On our return, we had a long chat with our neighbour at the campsite.
By then, the cold wind had left us feeling chilly, so we happily climbed back into the hot tub, where we ended up having another long conversation, this time with a German man.
All in all, a surprisingly enjoyable day. As I write this, the heavens have opened again. Hopefully the weather will be better for driving tomorrow.
